 Recommended watching for all beginners and particularly for children new to orienteering.
The video says that you should have a control description holder, this is not mandatory the control descriptions are often on the map or you can carry them seperately. They also mention taking a compass with you. Compasses are available for loan ($5 deposit) from the caravan when you register.
